The History of Nissan

The History of Nissan

The start of Nissan came about through Kwaishinsha Motor Car Works in 1911, begun by Masujiro Hashimoto. The first car developed by the company was known as the DAT. In 1925, the company changed its name to DAT Motorcar Co. Several more changes came before the name Nissan was attached to the company or the vehicles.

The abbreviation for the holding company of what was earlier known as DAT Motorcar Co. was Nissan for Nippon Sangyo. Another merger took place in 1930 and it started the first automobile manufacturing for Nissan. During the early days, Nissan focused on airplanes, trucks, and engines for the military in Japan. In the 1960s, Nissan developed a four-cylinder overhead cam known as the Nissan L engine. This engine was put into the Datsun 510, which propelled Nissan to success around the world.

For almost a decade, Nissan and Ford became partners to share parts and design elements for their vehicles. After 2002, new Nissan vehicles no longer resembled Ford models. The company aligned with Daimler and Renault to share the costs of development and technology.

The Brand Today

Nissan is known for advanced safety systems, fuel efficiency, and electric and hybrid vehicles. Nissan Design America is based in California and is responsible for the development of many Nissan models, including the Maxima, Altima, Frontier, and Xterra, along with the popular sports model, 370Z.

One of the main attractions buyers have for Nissan vehicles is the value. You get more for your money with a Nissan model. Even base models come loaded with amenities often associated with upper-level trims. Premium safety features are a prime example. Traction control, stability control, and rearview cameras are found in every model. Engineers are continuing to develop new technology to assist drivers on the road, and the body design even enhances safety with crumple zones and absorption.

Fuel economy is another reason buyers look to Nissan. Even traditional gasoline-powered vehicles are more efficient. Nissan is also one of the leaders in alternative technology with the Leaf being a solid seller in the electric car market. Models that use traditional fuel usually get at least 20 MPG with many going well over that minimum.

Service is never second-rate with Nissan dealerships. Every customer is treated like a person and not just another sale. When you come in for service on your Nissan vehicle, you’re taken care of. Each technician is trained on Nissan technology and design to ensure they understand how these models work. Routine maintenance helps the vehicles keep their value while advanced diagnostics and knowledge of the service staff ensure all problems are remedied quickly to get you back out on the road again. Nissan continues to focus on customer satisfaction to keep buyers coming back.
